Check Your Contacts
Most people have a list of contacts stored on their computer - friends, family and other people or businesses that we connect with. As we move towards the end of the year, now is a good time to go through this list and tidy things up.
- Delete any contacts that you don't need any more.
- Check that all the details are up to date.
If you are intending to use your contacts list to produce address labels, then do include the full postal address. Every country has its own specific preferences for addressing format and it helps to get this detail correct. A useful online resource is on the Royal Mail web site.
You can add as much or as little detail as you like, but do make sure that everything is correct.
More Housekeeping!
As we are thinking about PC housekeeping, it's a good idea to check now and again on how much disk space you are using. When your home fills up with clutter, you notice and do something about it (maybe!), but on your PC, the clutter is largely hidden and sooner or later it fills up.
As a general guide, if the hard drive that you store your information on (usually the 'C:' drive) is more than about 70% full, you should look to clearing some old files off the PC or maybe keeping them on a different disk.

Backups - can you recover?
Without doubt, one of your most important things on your PC is the information stored on it. Without an adequate backup system you are putting that information at risk. Whilst PC hardware can be replaced within 24 hours or so, your personal information, contacts and documents may be irreplaceable if it is not backed up.
User error, hardware failure, virus or malware infection can all happen without warning. If you have not backed up any changes to your data within the last 24 hours, then you are not doing it often enough.
